This world is full of bad news.
It is easy to live with an undercurrent of anxiety and dread, fearing the worst. And let”s face it: sometimes the worst happens.
How, then, can we live without constant fear of bad news?
We trust God.
He will not fear bad news;
his heart is confident, trusting in the LORD. (v. 7 CSB)
You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3 ESV
Those who know your name trust in you because you have not abandoned those who seek you, Lord. Psalm 9:10 CSB
We take delight in His commands.
Happy is the person who fears the LORD,
taking great delight in his commands. (v. 1 CSB)
Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 CSB
We place our confidence in Him.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
you will lie down, and your sleep will be pleasant.
Don’t fear sudden danger
or the ruin of the wicked when it comes,
for the LORD will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from a snare.
Proverbs 3:24-26 CSB
The person who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence indeed is the LORD, is blessed. Jeremiah 17:7 CSB
The result of righteousness will be peace;
the effect of righteousness
will be quiet confidence forever. Isaiah 32:17 CSB
But now, this is what the LORD says—
he who created you, Jacob,
he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior… Isaiah 43:1-3a CSB
We don’t have to live in fear of bad news.
Even if the worst happens, God has promised to be with us.
We can trust Him.
Father, I want a confident heart. I want to trust You so much that I am not afraid of bad news. Thank You for the promise that You will always be with me, even if disaster comes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
