Psalm 55

My thoughts trouble me.
I am distraught.
The voice of the enemy is loud.
My heart is filled with anguish.
I am afraid.
I want to escape.

But…

But I call to God,
and the LORD saves me.
Evening, morning and noon
I cry out in distress,
and he hears my voice.
He ransoms me unharmed
from the battle waged against me,
even though many oppose me. (v. 16-18)

My friend has betrayed me.
We once walked together, sharing life.
We once worshipped together.
Once my friend’s words brought comfort.
Now they bring war.

But…

Cast your cares on the LORD
and he will sustain you;
he will never let the righteous fall. (v. 22)

But as for me, I trust in you. (v. 23b)

David shows us what to do when we are in anguish, under attack, betrayed by those close to us, longing for escape.

Cry out to God.
Tell Him everything.
Evening, morning, noon – He never tires of hearing your cries for help.

Cast your cares on the LORD.

God will sustain you.
God will hold you up.
God will give you strength.
God will keep you from falling.

Surely God is my help;
the Lord is the one who sustains me. Psalm 54:4

Trust Him.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

Father, my thoughts trouble me and all I can hear is the voice of the enemy. I just want to fly away and escape. But I cry out to You. I cast all my cares and anxiety on You. I need Your help to sustain me and keep me from falling. I trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
