Psalm 28

Psalm 28 is a prayer for mercy and help. David calls on God, his Rock, his strength, and his shepherd to have mercy on him and to judge those who do evil.

How can you pray this psalm today?

To you I call, O LORD my Rock…
Hear my cry for mercy
as I call to you for help,
as I lift up my hands
toward your Most Holy Place. (v. 1-2)

You are my Rock, my safety, my refuge.
I cry out to You for mercy. Have compassion on me and forgive me.
I call to You for help today. I need You.
I lift up my hands like a child reaching for her Father. I can’t do this on my own.
I lift up my hands in surrender. I want Your ways not mine. I want You more than relief.

This is what I need today…(healing, provision, deliverance, protection, wisdom, relief, forgiveness…)

Praise be to the LORD,
for he has heard my cry for mercy. (v. 6)

Thank You, Father, that you hear my cries.
Instead of giving me what I deserve, You show mercy. You forgive.

The LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for joy
and I will give thanks to him in song. (v. 7)

Father, You are my strength. On days I feel weak, You give me strength to keep going. When I feel strong, it is only because of the strength You provide.
You are my shield, my defender. You protect me all day long.

I trust You with all my heart. I am secure in Your love for me. I am confident in Your protection and provision. I am safe in You.
Trust helps. It helps to know Your love for me will never end.

Because I trust You, my heart is filled with joy.
I will sing praises to You and give thanks to You.

The LORD is the strength of his people,
a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.
Save your people and bless your inheritance;
be their shepherd and carry them forever. (v. 8-9)

Father, You are the strength of Your people.
You are a fortress of salvation, a refuge, a place of safety.
Thank you for Your salvation and blessing, LORD.
You are my shepherd. You lead me on safe paths, You provide for my needs, You give me rest. You carry me when I am weak or the path is treacherous.

You are my Rock, my strength, my salvation, my shepherd.
My heart trusts in You.

Father, thank You for the words of the psalms that teach me who You are and show me how to pray. Amen.
