Psalm 25

Psalm 25 is a prayer of reflection and repentance, a heartfelt request to know God and His ways.

Make David’s prayer your own.

I trust You.

To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul;
in you I trust, O my God. (v. 1-2a)

I hope in You.

No one whose hope is in you
will ever be put to shame… (v. 3a)

I need You.

Show me your ways, O LORD,
teach me your paths;
guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long. (v. 4-5)

I want to walk in Your ways, not my own.
Show me Your ways. I can’t find them on my own.
Teach me. I want to know You.
Guide me. I want to follow You.
My hope is in You.

Remember Your love for me.

Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love
for they are from of old.
Remember not the sins of my youth
and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
for you are good, O LORD. (v. 6-7)

God, please focus on Your great mercy and love, not my sins and rebellious ways. Remember me in love.

You are good.

Good and upright is the LORD;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
He guide the humble in what is right
and teaches them his way.
All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful
for those who keep the demands of
his covenant. (v. 8-10)

Because of Your goodness, LORD, You show sinners how to find You.
I humble myself before You.
Teach me Your ways.
Your ways are loving and faithful.
Help me obey.

Forgive me.

For the sake of your name, O LORD,
forgive my iniquity, though it is great. (v. 11)

Bless me.

Who, then, is the man that fears the LORD?
He will instruct him in the way chosen for him.
He will spend his days in prosperity,
and his descendants will inherit the land.
The LORD confides in those for fear him;
he makes his covenant know to them. (v. 12-14)

You bless those who worship You.
You bless them with specific instructions in the way You have chosen for them.
You bless them and their children with prosperity.
You bless them with Your friendship. You confide in them and make your ways known to them.

I want to follow You.

My eyes are ever on the LORD,
for only he will release my feet from the snare. (v. 15)

I will keep my eyes on You.
Your way is the only safe path.

I need You.

Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
The troubles of my heart have multiplied;
free me from my anguish.
Look upon my affliction and my distress
and take away all my sins.
See how my enemies have increased
and how fiercely they hate me!
Guard my life and rescue me;
let me not be put to shame,
for I take refuge in you. (v. 16-20)

When troubles find me or enemies attack, turn to me and be gracious to me. Take away my sins. Guard my life. Rescue me.
I take refuge in You.

My hope is in You.

May integrity and uprightness protect me,
because my hope is in you. (v. 21)

Father, I trust you. I hope in You. I need You. Remember Your love for me. You are good. Forgive me. Bless me. I want to know You and Your ways. I want to follow You. I need You. Turn to me and be gracious to me. Free me from my anguish. Take away all my sins. Guard my life and rescue me. My hope is in You. Amen.
